Outdoor sounds

Bobwhite whistles used to be a constant background sound of summer here. I haven't heard one in about 15-20 years. :(

That's sad. We have had such a big decline in Birds here on the coast. We rarely hear a Bobwhite call anymore but sometimes in the spring we do. The Slate Colored Junco's or Snow Birds are about gone. So is the White Throated Sparrow or Song Sparrow. The Wife and I did see a Kildee beside the road a few days ago, first one I have seen in years.

Only seen a few quail in Ga in last 10 years. Last year in Illinois was sitting in a chair atop a little ridge and a pair flew in by me. This 1 was just a few feet away. Highly enjoyable. Still plenty of white throats here in the winter. Not nearly as many snowbirds as there were when I was a kid, at least down here in the holler. Still plenty higher o mountain. I still see a good many kildees. Whippoorwills have almost disappeared here, and grouse numbers are way down. Seems to be more ravens than there used to be, though.

"Useless Billy" Fire Chief.
I like hearing Great Horned Owls, really like hearing Blue Birds. And the Red wing Blackbird when I’m fishing an old farm pond. Squirrels when a Hawk comes through, hearing the foot steps of a deer in dry leaves before you can see them. A Bass hitting something on the surface of the water. A turkey gobble. I also like the dead calm and quiet that the woods sometimes are.
Thunder in an approaching summer storm. There are really to many to name.

Love hearing the owls around the house. And those noisy, loud little wrens. :bounce: Heck, I enjoy hearing all of mother nature’s instrumentalists playing their part of the song. I often keep my windows open in my room just for this reason. Love the sounds of nature.

I love the sound of a morning dove and their wings

I miss that sound.
I do enjoy the frogs, crickets and owls here in the city. We live in a sleepy little town so not much loud cars and stuff. Only thing we hear in the wee hours of the night is the train. The sound of the church bells on Sunday morning is nice too. My very favorite is when we go to the beach and I sleep with the window open and listen to the waves crashing all night.
My grandmother lived in downtown Stone Mountain when I was young.
Hearing the train blow is gotten and shake that little wooden bridge lulled me to sleep many nights.
Whenever I hear a gentle train horn in the distance or the clickity clack from tracks I mourn that part of my childhood.

traffic is getting constant, and as it warms up, loud bikes, folks sharing their favorite music from their cars are drowning out a lot.
That is the problem.
I really meant the natural outdoor sounds, too much man made noise.

I do like this man made noise,
There is a church about 2 miles away that has electric bells that plays daily at noon. Best I can hear regularly.
Sandhill cranes migrating at the start of cold weather in late fall
Amazing you can hear them and star looking and they are WAY up there and look like dots, but you can hear them over all the man made noise. Just amazing.

Love this, and watching the lightning too. And summertime "heat" lightning while watching the stars.

Yep!

Love when they fly up or down to the feeders, and their cooing mating calls.

There is a sound in mother nature that gets on my nerves when deer hunting, and that’s the steady call of the Pileated Woodpecker. As if their loud hammering ain’t enough, son of guns get to calling sometimes and just won’t hush. Can’t hear anything else but them. I think they’re cool birds, but too dang noisy when trying to hunt. facepalm:

Like JustForUsAll said, I like the sound of the wind in the pines. Sounds like the ocean.

A mountain creek running sounds good when you're laying in a tent beside it at night.

I like all the sounds of Nature. I don`t like man made noise pollution or any racket made by people, machines, vehicles, anything like that. I`m getting to where I don`t even like to hear humans talking anymore, for the most part.

Silence really is golden.
