PLAN B FOR BEAVERS AT A CULVERT

While setting one of these up yesterday I thought it might be a good idea to share with anyone faced with a similar problem. The beavers are stopping up a culvert with few/ only a couple of places to set traps near the site or maybe none. I've done this several times and it works well. I used metal T post to outline a fence that woul exclude beavers from the culvert. Fence needs to be out away from the culvert. Then stretch hog wire fencing around the outside of the post and fasten. Pick two or three spots along the fence (maybe one out front and one on either side. Start at the bottom and cut slots big enough to accomodate 330 Conibears. Set your traps in the cut-outs and fasten to the T-posts. For some reason it doesn't (or hasen't yet!) occur to the beavers to build the dam along the fence. They're drawn to that culvert.
Obviously the water has to be shallow enough for you to work in but otherwise this set up is easily adapted to fit your needs.
