Plant/Fungus/No Idea What It Is

Any ideas what this is? I don't remember seeing it before. Just inside the treeline under water oaks and briars. You can see a cluster growing in the background of the picture. 20220504_095041.jpg

Squaw root is what it's always been called around here, and used to be in the books, but I guess that's not PC any more. Bears eat it when they first come out of hibernation in the spring.
