They will take over creation here. Did you try the native one? It lives fine here in sub-zero winters. There are also some tropical species that aren't hardy. The one you want is Passiflora incarnata. It grows naturally up into Ohio, IN, IL, and PA. I bet it would live if you sited it on the south side of a building or some such.
