Question: could a coyote be lured to a box trap with live prey?

I'm wanting to get rid of any coyotes on my property and would like to know if putting either a live chicken or rabbit into a closed metal trap cage and setting at a field edge would draw a coyote?

99% of coyotes won't enter a cage trap. And I'm not certain but I think it's illegal to use a live animal for bait. Get a trapping license and learn to trap with footholds.

Draw a possum, a coon, n' a bobcat no doubt.
Probably not a 'yote.

They came in my chicken yard the other night. Almost got one. Heard the ruckus.
They where like in fenced in areas
Not full. They came in the open area.
I thought about the box trap. Keep from catching my dogs.

I guess anything could be possible but you could probably get PETA members to hunt and fish before it would happen tho! LOL

I wasn't thinking that the coyote would enter the cage; in fact I planned to keep the cage closed.
I just wanted to draw the coyote to it so I could get a shot.

I actually caught a coyote in a live trap here on farm about 6 years ago. Not on purpose tho. Hog trap baited with peanuts and doughnuts. Has not happened since.
