I’ve never turkey hunted so I don’t know much about their habits/rituals. I had a flock of about 20 behind the house and three or four were engaged in some kind of ritual. I wouldn’t call it fighting but they were pushing each other around and seemed to be interested in one hen. I couldn’t tell which ones were hens or toms. Is it mating season already? I thought that was in the spring when the toms strutted their stuff to impress the hens.

What you are probably seeing is hens grouped up together with this years young. The young will be almost full grown and the males are have recently become distinguishable. Like bob said the males (jakes) will have red heads and you can probably see a short beard starting to stick out of the feathers. The behavior you are seeing is the young establishing pecking order.

I had the same thing happen to me and my wife while walking to the stand yesterday. A flock of 15 turkeys and 2 of them were jumping up and down looked like fighting to me.
