Shaker Village wall in KY

Shaker village wall KY gon.JPG

This was placed in the wall by the Shakers for some reason. Not sure what the purpose was, but it has a neat appearance to me. The B&W seemed appropriate. If you are ever in KY they are trying to revitalize the old Shaker village. Nice little paddle wheel boat trip near by as well.

Amazing how they kept it so uniformly round. Awesome.

I have visited the one in South Union it is about 20 miles from here. It was closed in 1922, and has a Museum there. The Shakers were an interesting people.

They were very interesting. There are miles of walls on this property. They are trying to keep everything period correct. Unfortunately they have had to tear down several structures, but they are doing a good job with what they have been able to save. They offer overnight accommodations in some of the original buildings.
