Shotgun for Coyote/Bobcat

Railroader

Trucker Billy: Northbound and Down
Gonna test a few more but right at 53-54 yards with the longbeard xr’s:

I was out of targets so had to print something .

View attachment 1352973

Gonna try and pick up some hevi shot and see how those do. And shoot another couple just to be sure my aim wasn’t off. I’ll try and draw out a circle on somethin if I can find a bigger board.

I don’t see myself shooting beyond that if I can help it. Unless the hevi shots do somethin crazy. Im getting older and cant see as far as I use to, evidently lol

I’ll let yall know how it goes
Just my opinion, but at 55 yards that would probably result in a blind and very agitated wildcat ... :bounce:

#4 buckshot....

Good he won’t see the next shot comin lol. Is buckshot legal on wma for furbearer? If it don’t say otherwise then it’s allowed? Was thinkin it wasn’t allowed at all.

I got a bunch of pre- ban lead Winchester XX Magnum, shot size BB (folks say "Double B") that could possibly show up in @Gh0st ' mailbox.

He could PM me if he needs 5 or 6.

Coyotes ain't that hard to kill if you get them into shotgun range.

On another note, in addition to those same 12ga Double B loads, the community gut pile at the now closed Ogeechee WMA was a good place to shoot them with the old 20ga box fed bolt action "Goose Gun". #1 Buck did the trick.
You are too kind. I appreciate you! I’m gonna check another store today and see what I can find. I had a diff brand turkey load I had (3”) and shot the same target this morning and it was wayyyy worse. Barely any pellets on the paper.

Far as I know, Buckshot is not allowed on WMA property. #2 or smaller.

I don't know about NF land because I ain't got into that. YET.

And to add to my post above, I got some max load 2 shot @Gh0st. could git' a handful of too but having Double B, I would shoot that. Not in front of me but they are 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 ounce over a 4 dram eqv. charge of flake.

When you wrap the mind around a big load of BB shot, think about BB- Gun bb's and the amount of .177 caliber lead balls that shell throws down range.

That's the PERFECT shot size and excellent balance of shot size energy relative to pattern density and range in my mind anyway.
Bad mama jammer'.

I call horse hockey on banning lead for waterfowl. I bet more birds are injured with steel that die a slow death than there are birds dieing from lead poisoning.
A lot of folks HAVE to shoot steel because a case of tungsten or bismuth shotgun shells cost as much as a truck payment. But that's another thread.

Got a sec to shoot a couple more of the 3.5s, walked off the target again and it’s right at 56 steps, which for me is about 3ft per or so . Down hill

From 56+- , pretty similar to the first one (not great)IMG_6611.jpeg

Then around 35 or so: both aiming right between the eyes,

I am shooting off the deck also on the 56 yard, about 6 foot off ground. The other was downhill still but from the ground.

I may just have to buy me an another(smaller caliber) rifle lol, been eyeing some from the beginning.

Get yourself an accurate 22 rifle, let it tell you what ammunition it likes best out of Long Rifle solids, and go with that. That little bullet will kill anything that walks in the South, with proper bullet placement.

Plus, you won`t tear up fur with that round.

Shoot it in the eye, or the ear, and you don`t have a fur to stitch up.
Sadly with the price of furs now, that's not much of an issue.

A 223 with FMJs would be the ticket along with a 22 mag or 17 HMR with Vmax ammo, especially if you have to use rimfire ammo

Yea, the fur market is shot. Haven`t sold a fur since 82. These days I keep fur for myself, and was doing a little brain tanning until arthritis put a hold on it.

I keep all the fox and bobcat, maybe a nice coyote or two, but give the rest to a kid that puts up fur.

Well said and as true today as it was back in my wild and crazy days. I killed a pile of stuff with a Ruger 10-22 and a 40 grain solid

The work around on lead BB's is non toxic shot I promise a load of Hevi Shot, tungsten, bismuth etc. is bad to the bone and legal Dead Coyote T shot, BBB, or BB will serve you well
