Out with Paul Oglesby today on a sonar/fishing trip. We got his Helix 12 and Dual Helix 9's dialed in and tweaked up....and boy did they show out!
First stop - while I was working on his bow unit, Paul sticks 2 good spots in the boat with a sebile. I mean - I hadn't picked up my rod...on my knee working on the sonar...and Paul jumps me like a rat on a cheese ball. I started targeting long points with a big depth change and humps with the same structure. Didn't have to have brush....it was that change of depth the fish were keyed in on...right where it started to drop off in about 22'-28' of water.
After getting his units set up....we were off to fish about 8:30am and I was already down 2-0. First few places, we were sticking fish on the Jerk Shad and topwater...and some good fish. I picked up my drop shot and stuck a solid spot on Morning Dawn. Paul boated a solid 5# fish....this thing looked like she ate a cantaloupe!
Moved on to another hole or two and we got on a big school. Jerk Shad, topwater, and drop shot....all three were on fire. Jerk Shad - it was White, Pearl, and the new FZNH2O did serious damage and on the drop shot, Morning Dawn, Prizm Shad, Blue Lily, and Tomato Craw all stuck fish. Oh yeah....drop shot only catches small fish
I think Paul will tell you differently.
Paul and I were tied at 13 each going to the last waypoint - a hump on the main lake....it was 11:45am.....next fish wins the day. Down goes the drop shot and Ol' LJ sticks a 4#+ spot. Ended the day with 27 fish....not bad considering we were in Paul's boat and having to look for the waypoints....a lot of time idling around.
Fun day for sure....and the trash talking was exceptional today....well - it started last night when I confirmed the trip
Paul's a great dude...fun to fish with....we've been out a few times before in the winter and boated a ton of fish then too. LJ
