Seeing these around the house lately and just curious of what they are. This one is about 7” long. 98EB7B6A-4698-4968-AFE6-FCAFDF072DE0.jpeg D93907A3-E7FB-41CB-9B19-ED5288BDF226.jpeg FAB97BE7-CE4F-46AD-B58D-A619296367B5.jpeg

According to WiKi they only get 12” long. I’ve never seen one any bigger than the one in the picture. We always just called them brown garter snakes.

I used to find them in the landscaping around houses we were doing restoration work on.

Garter snakes are kind of similar, but different, and get a lot bigger.

And Garter snakes can have quite a temper (though they do tame fairly well), but these little jokers are gentle as can be.
They have about the most musk of any snake I've ever handled, too. You pick up a garter, you gonna stink for awhile.
