Spanish Mackerel

It depends on the salinity and water temps. They are marine species and require high ocean salinity. Estuary waters generally have salinity lower than that.

What are y’all using to catch these Spanish and are you trolling? I e only caught one and it was by pure luck but put up a pretty good fight, I’d love to learn how to catch them!

I've never fished for them in GA, but we wear them out in the gulf with Clarkspoon mackerel tree rigs. My last excursion we had a couple full hook-ups, 4 fish bit all at the same time on one rod.

I watched a video about trolling with Clark spoons and the end of a mackerel tree and gave it a try a couple years back in Saint Cats Sound and was shocked it worked the first time. Caught a half dozen or so. They were small, but it's cool when a plan comes together. Good luck!
