I attended the fly fishing show in Duluth yesterday and a young lady was Spey casting a was doing an incredible performance. Effortlessly casting and making cast the entire length of the pool. I’ve never given the method much of any thought and never seen it in use before yesterday. The thought occurred to me that it may make casting to stripers on a lake a little bit more efficient. Has anyone ever tried this technique on our lakes before?

That was Whitney Gould. She's a 7 time world champion spey caster and also throw a mean single hand. I think spey casting works best with moving water. It's particularly good when there's no or limited room to backcast. I know a few fly fisherman who lake fish for stripers and also fish with spey rods, but not at the same time.

A good Spey caster is fun to watch, I agree when they are casting it looks very effortless to sling a whole lot of line !
