Strange Contender Barrell. What do I have?

I have this 16" bull stainless contender barrel, in 32-20, made in the TC custom shop, and the last 4-5" of the barrel screws off, leaving a pencil size barrel that is all part of the rest of the barrel. What in the world could be the reason for this outer piece to come off for? Walt.Cont 1.jpgCont 4.jpgcont 3.jpgCont 1.jpgCont 4.jpgcont 3.jpgCont 1.jpgCont 4.jpgcont 3.jpg

That is interesting I've never seen that before. I'm following along for an explanation on things.

Shot in the dark here but could it be an unfinished integrally suppressed barrel?

Other integrally suppressed guns have a similar setup.

The 32-20 is an accurate cartridge but a powerless one at that. I'm thinking outer sheath for target shooting and screw it off to reduce weight for small game hunting. Like railroader said a lot of trouble for that particular cartridge. That's my inflation impacted two cents anyway.

Maybe to “tune” the barrel harmonics?
Just another guess.
