Tamiami Trail.

At the end of June I fished the Tamiami Trail and a number of its spur roads with my fly rod. It was rather fun...caught a million Mayan Cichlids and half a million Oscars. I would see a tarpon or a snook or a peacock bass, make a perfect cast and one of the two above species would come out of nowhere and grab the fly. 105946692_10213444985478007_6428613691650665994_o.jpg106297787_10213444985958019_2831359225860077559_o.jpg105562286_10105198758024273_7614859537246971344_o.jpg

Looks like fun! I've heard that those oscars are good eating.

That's a trip I'd like to take. Is there a limit on those things?

So ironic. Just this past week, my 3yo niece caught a fish that we couldn’t identify while fishing a neighborhood pond in Homestead with my brother.
My brother being new down there thought it may have been a juvenile peacock, but I knew differently. Searched and searched and sure enough she caught a Mayan Cichlids.
While reading, it stated that those oscars are a sure enough fighter, making a peacock seem like child’s play pound for pound.
Hoping to run into some when down there Labor Day weekend.
Nice job and thanks for sharing!

Are those things displacing Bream and Crappie in the South Florida fishing waters? Of that is the case, it is a das thing.

Brings back one of my few good memories of S Fla as I lived in Miami from ‘75 to ‘81. Fished the Trail many times and had good luck landing old bucket mouth. Also caught my PB gar there!
