Wood ducks still landing coulda killed a 10 man limit by now. There’s tons of geese but they won’t come in flying the river but won’t come down close. Hopefully some other kinds ducks come and they came make a full 2 man limit. Awesome hunt so far. We got till 12 to make it happen.

Awesome, looks like those boys can shoot.

They shot a little too good they were done very quick. When we left and went back to turn our kill cards back in. There was a lady from the USDA there and asked to sample the ducks. I told here that’s fine but we need to cook em first. She didn’t know what to say.?. Told her I was just playing and to go ahead. She was checking for avain enflunza(No way I spelled that right) Bird Flu. Was interesting. 4C6E63A5-9F3C-4B37-8E72-682FF637ED83.jpegC718954E-F4C0-4475-9702-E1B17D8844E0.jpegA0AA6F78-D9B2-48C3-864F-BCCE06151E9B.jpegC526C8C7-6F43-483F-9AE2-56D00A1D0801.jpeg709EE9F4-B593-476A-BC47-8D2EBF78DE28.jpeg5F0F7131-071A-4BAB-9C08-5E5108BEEA1C.jpeg

Thanks guys, they had a blast. Too bad he’s 14 and will probably not draw the youth hunt again before he’s too old. I hate to admit I had to ride back down there from Jackson soon as we got home. He paid for his own shotgun yesterday evening. Bought himself a Franchi Affinity. He’s home schooled and has a job at a local boat shop. He also buys and fixes then sells 4wheelers. He laid down $1200 for it and wouldn’t have it any other way, which makes me as proud as anything. I told him to take my shotgun with us in case the new 1 messed up. Of course we get home he goes to cleaning out the truck and realized he left my gun leaning next to the tree we sat next to. I’m just glad it was waiting on us when we got back down there. We’re gonna hunt my swamp in the morning. It’ll be him, nephew, one of there buddies, and my buddy’s son looking for his 1st duck. See if they can do a 4 man limit tomorrow.

It wasn’t there day at the swamp this morning. Saw several woodies nothing was coming our way. Then it was group after group of mallards. No kidding 60+ birds but they were high and they were talking. They’d circle big wide circles and never come down. Not sure what it was but they wouldn’t come in. Maybe next weekend

Went to Venice and was shocked at how few ducks. The storms down there have killed nearly all of the vegetation. Found some vegetation and a few ducks, but there were 20 boats to every duck. Totally a bust other than good eating.

I am going to do something local this weekend, either on a river or pond or maybe the gulf. I know where some woodducks are, but that is about it. Had a friend with a pond with some big ducks, but they decided to clean up all around the edge of it to plant winter rye last week and the ducks left. It is early for ducks on the gulf, but who knows. My local area had most of the vegetation destroyed by Hurricane Michael and it has not come back. The birds moved way east and south last year. Haven't scouted or heard any reports from there yet. Oh well, typical duck season in the southeast.

Good luck Killer!
The youth I was taking didn’t hold up his end of the barging with his grades so I’m on the sidelines until next weekend. Hopefully the kid turns it around and can get his shot at his first duck.
Success!!
