Electricity.......I have well water and when I flush the toilet, after a couple of times, my pump kicks on.....to save electricity I pee in the yard during the day....at night, I will use the toilet....however, #2 always goes in the toilet with a flush as soon as possible...

Beside food, what are some things you spend money on that is literally throwing money away.
Toilet paper, 1 time use and flush it down the toilet. You could use old rags and wash them. Or a bidet. Saw the rag thing on a show called "extreme cheapskates"
Kleenex, blow your nose and in the trash it goes. You could use handkerchiefs.
Zip lock bags, some folks do wash them but most dont. You could use reusable plastic/glass containers.
Same with plastic wrap for covering plates, put it in containers then back on a plate later.
Paper towels. I have never bought paper towels, I use wash cloths or towels and wash them.
Napkins, could use cloth and wash them.
Mulch, could use shredded leaves or rake your own (or someone else's) pine straw, (I did this for years) or get it free from a tree service. Not as pretty but free.

Just some thoughts I had yesterday while at work and talking with my coworker.
I'll never go without T.P. I blow my nose on napkins or T.P. No kleenex. The rest I do. House paid off at the age of 42 and still do it.

I knew a lady that was so tight, she would save her dryer lint to stuff her pillows. Don’t know how she didn’t die of allergies.

Knew an old mountain man that moved to town. Every Thursday he would crawl under his house and light his hot water heater to take a bath. Crawled right back underneath there and blew it out after the bath. He was one tuff ol bird. Irishman named Chapman.

washed a many myself.
I started out with them, but I witched to pampers real quick.
My dad always used a handkerchief. I find few things more disgusting.
Only if you use it. ::ke:My Diddy always did. My son and my brother still carry one. My brother has handed his UNUSED hanky many a time when I went to crying. H22's dad carries a bandana as a hanky.
Who admits to using plastic trash can liners?
I use the good stretchy ones for the kitchen, but the bathrooms get a plastic grocery bag.

Being on a well with hard water, one of those was Lemi-Shine water softener for our dishwasher. I looked it up and the main ingredient is just food grade citric acid. I bought a big bag of citric acid and use that now and it works just as good.
How do you use it? Just put it in like the soap?
What about dropping it in the well itself?
How many washout and reuse their freezer bags?
I do. Not all of them, the really gross ones just go in the recycle bag (what they do I don't know but I did my part). But most 90+% I do wash at least once if not numerous times.
I do not buy them but Dad does.
Not cutting out paper towels as we use them to drain grease on to so it doesn't go into the septic tank.
I drain mine into a glass jar (pickle or similar) and then to the trash when it gets full.
I’ll rinse and save tin foil
I do that too.
My household can go through some styrofoam plates
Why not paper plates? At least those are biodegrabale.
It they aint strong enough you can buy those little plate things made from woven reeds.

We both probably had reusable diapers.
I was in them as a baby. Still have some old ones we use to wax cars.
I never used diapers as I don't have children. I can see the convenience of disposables but they are expensive.
There are services that will pick them up wash/sterilize them and drop off a fresh batch.
My dad always used a handkerchief. I find few things more disgusting.
Me too. I do use Kleenex (sams brand) but if you wash them out (maybe while your in the shower) before putting in the washing machine I can be ok with that.
I knew a lady that was so tight, she would save her dryer lint to stuff her pillows.
My brother puts it in TP rollers and uses it as fire starters.

And for what its worth, I do use TP. Probably wont be giving it up, just pointing it out.
What did bygone generations use? I don't know.

I do waste way too much money on TV.
I will pay for electricity willingly.

Surprised no one mentioned the 2 to 4 months you work for free to pay income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes etc.

No wonder it now takes $0.03 to make a penny

I enjoy a good bourbon. Is it wasteful? To those who don’t drink, probably. I view cigarettes the same way. I don’t smoke so I can’t see spending money on cigarettes. At this stage of life if I want to spend money on bourbon that’s what I’ll do.
