Tractor question

I had a hydraulic hose come loose on my John Deere and lost a little bit of fluid out of the line. I want to top it off before using it next time. I am inexperienced with tractors so bear with me, but is Hydraulic Oil and Hydraulic Fluid the same thing? I have some Hy-Gard Hydraulic Fluid at the house, but wanted to make sure before I used it.

Yeah they’re the same. If you only lost a little bit you might not even need to top it off but I don’t know what you consider “a little bit” and what jd consider a little bit. Deere used to use a sight glass to check the fluid levels but I think they have a dipstick now. Check that first.

Thanks. It probably looks like more than it actually was, but I would say 4-8 oz max.

Only thing I would add to this is, if your JD has a shuttle shift, hydo shift, is to use non foaming oil!
