Looks like a good time! And that's about as pretty of a northern brook as you'll see. He's been in there a good while, for sure.
You got a picture of a northern and southern brookie side by side? Is your definition of a northern brook trout a stocked fish?

Around here it is. All our natives are southern strain. The northerns can get some decent color if they’re in the creek several months. But they don’t ever look like the native specks. My internet is down now, but I can post some pics later.

I'm not sure I've ever caught a stocked brookie, probably have. Most of ours are wild and native. We have something like 15,000 of miles of wild trout streams and another 5,000 miles of stocked streams , I believe. Not a fan of bucket fish!
