Value of 12' Jonboat and homemade trailer?

I'm thinking of doing a little boat trading with a friend and I'm interested in knowing the value of a boat/trailer combo I have.

12' 30+ year old Skeetercraft Jonboat on an old Coleman popup camper trailer someone converted with bunks (don't want to dox myself with pics)

The boat has been lake tested no leaks.

I went to the trouble of getting both boat and trailer legal and transferrable and fixed the lights on the trailer.

I'm thinking high side $1000 realistically $600-$800 or is this too high?

From what I've seen transferable jonboats and trailers come at a premium as opposed to those with no "papers".

Seems high to me, but we’ll see what others say. I did the unregistered trailer thing with a kayak trailer. A visit from a deputy at their convenience got a form to take to the DMV, not too inconvenient.

I'm thinking that's a little high, as well. Decent factory built trailer would change things a bit, but converted popup trailer probably brings your value down.

But, things are worth what someone is willing to pay, so the opinion of the guy you're trading with is more useful than my input.

People keep saying this but it isn't that easy anymore, at least not in Clarke county. They require materials receipts and pictures of the build now.

That is different than an unregistered manufactured frame with a serial number.

Truthfully its worth what the man with the cash is willing to give you on the day youre ready to sell.
I know thats kind of ambiguious but Jon boat and trailer prices are all over the place and equipment sometime.makes a difference sometimes not. When I say all over the.place anywhere from free to thousands.
My brother bought a 12' Gamefisher with seats 2 batterys trolling motor charger and.5HP outboard on a store bought trailer with lifejackets paddle fire extinguisher the works for $750. 5 years ago. Recently aaked 1500 and sold it for $1200.
Nephew picked up a 1446 with live well decking trolling motor, battery seats and accessories to keep it legal for $500 no trailer.
A high school Buddy just sold a plain old 1236 in good shape no trailer for $150.

Good luck hope you make a deal that makes.you both happy cause thats what makes a good deal.

Maybe find some.classifieds but remember asking and getting are 2 different thimgs.

Thanks for all the replies.

It's a 1236 on a homebuilt converted popup trailer. Both registered and transferrable, I'm guessing now realistic price is $300-500. Excluding safety items (which I can keep and use on another boat) I'm into it for about $300.

I'll just keep it for pond fishing electric reservoir kind of stuff. Since it's essentially worth nothing maybe I'll play around with mods - I think my brother has a jet ski motor laying around? That would be a good excuse to buy a welder.

I can make the Coleman trailer into a tiny flatbed and still use the boat on it.

Eh, thanks again for the honest replies. I'll just keep it for what it's worth, I can use it as is or use it as a play platform.

They're great to have around if you have room to store it.
If youre gonna keep it I wouldnt get too crazy with mods.
I've found keeping it simple and light as possible with a 1236 is best. They dont have a whole lot of payload to begin with. Those that try to deck em out like a bigger boat with decking, and all the goodies can wind up too heavy to fish 2 grown men and a cooler and remain afloat. Then they wind up spending more time removing all the time and money they spent only to put it back to what they started with. 1448 and up are a little different.
Good luck and enjoy it.

A 2025 Tracker 12' jon boat is ~$1300.

For comparison only.
A 30 yr old 12' john boat is worth $250 or $300 - FB Market place will pan that out.

The trailer is worth $100. It's not a galvanized or aluminum boat trailer...

So we have $400-$500.

I just read your last post. The best thing is to hang on to it. If you are gonna buy a bigger one, 14 or 16x48 is the way to go. I would be getting the 16 and put a 25 hp or a surface drive on it.
