Got invited on a 3 day fishing trip to Venice, LA by some good friends. We arrived Saturday and stayed in Cypress Cove Marina lodging. Due to offshore conditions Sunday we decided to do an inshore trip. Two boats between 5 people and we all limited out on redfish, caught a bunch of flounder, black drum, and sheeps head.
Monday we hit it for offshore, started off not getting much bait. Went out and tried for Swordfish and didn’t get any bites, then tried for tuna and hooked up right away, a short fight until it got sharked and that was it for tuna. On the way back in we tried for red snapper and managed 3 total, tough day of fishing for sure. It was very cool to see all the oil and natural gas rigs up close.
Went back off shore today and oh man what a day. Started off running into a thunder storm with a down poor while we caught bait, managed to fill the live well with horned bellies. The water was rough and dirty initially. Once we got about 70 miles offshore the sun came out and the water was a deep clear blue and flat as a lake. First two free lines hooked up and it was on. We ended up with 9 yellowfin tuna with the biggest being 160lbs, a big wahoo and a barracuda. The big tuna took over three hours to get in the boat. Definitely a trip of a lifetime and one I will remember forever
