West Point river crappie - 2-9-21

Triston and I were finally able get out on the river yesterday evening for a couple of hours. The fish didn't disappoint and they were exactly where they should be. We concentrated on areas in 4-6 ft of water and we caught 50+ in two hours. We kept 20 for the grease.

We tossed two different baits. A 1/16 oz head with a "money" colored curly tail did a good bit of damage. Some of the better fish came on a slower presentation of a 1/16 oz head with a Bobby Garland baby shad fished under a float.

We also caught a handful of white bass. It isn't going to be long, with a few days of good weather, and the river is going to be turning on big time for the spring.

Heck yeah! I'm gonna try to get down to the Hill around the first of the month and drag some jigs. The white bass run ought to be getting started here in a few weeks.

Ya'll better get ready! Every time Dustin gets on the Crappie up there, it's fixing to start, of course there'll probably be a few cold fronts and a couple floods to make it last a little longer.
It used to be Spring fishing was good when the Dogwoods bloom, Naw.
Global warming happened, then it was when the Bradford pears bloom, Naw.
Nowadays, it's when Dustin starts posting his large Crappie hauls!

No joke, but I am a firm believer that when the red bud trees start to swell that you better be on the water. Guess what I saw last week?

for quite a few decades the last week of FEB was my favorite time of the year on west point. we could sink the boat wit LM, spots whites and hybrid.

Careful going north from Ringer, some really shallow areas.

And one bouy just north of Ringer that may out of line from the channel. Not 100% sure, but it was not where marked last year.

Nope. Either run from Franklin or Ringer.
