West Point River run update 3-1-21

I've been on the river 4 out of the last 5 days and things are really starting to happen. It is still a mixed bag of whites, hybrids, and big crappie. I've been keying on areas from Snake Creek to Ringer, mainly. Water temps have risen from 48 or so early last week up to 53-54 yesterday. Actually saw some low 60 water off the river late yesterday evening.

The crappie I'm catching are all pre-spawn fish that are still in the main river. They are sitting on some sneaky stuff that isn't visible. Little small current breaks are really producing. We are mainly catching them on Strike King Slabalicious in Black/Chart. on a 1/8 oz head. A follow up Bobby Garland shad under a float will pick off any stragglers.

The white bass are really the big player right now and the bite has gotten better by the day. Same lures are working, but I'm tossing my hand tied bucktails for them as well. All the normal spots seem to be holding fish. Still not seeing a ton of fish north of Snake creek, but that is subject to change at any moment.

The hybrids are slowly working their way into the mix. Most of our fish are coming south of Potato creek. Again, same lures. You can target them a little more by throwing bigger swimbaits or live/cut bait. I'm not breaking out the live/cut until absolutely necessary. I much prefer the light tackle if the water color allows.

Good to see you out there D. Good to see ole Greg too. I think he was disappointed that shine wasn't with me.

Looks like it wasn't quite warm enough for the old man, needs to grow him a beard and be one of the beautiful people...like me!! Nice catch, hoping the rains aren't too severe this week. The creeks in South Fulton are muddy, but not rising.

Nice, did you leave your little fishing buddy at the house this time?? He’s been putting some good ones in the boat too!!

We need to get a gathering together with everyone that’s GON family, that fishes West Point, with there boats, that way we can at least recognize everyone while we’re out there

Welcome back.
You can't see brush creek ramp from the river, but you may could put in if you want to only fish brush creek. Shoot you better know where you're going at ringer right now. Snake creek is definitely out of the equation

I can remember a time (a long time ago) when I put in at Ringer when the lake was down 12 feet and went upriver.

The good ol' days!

Let's do it! I don't have a boat, but I'm always up for a fish fry.
Corona messed up the last one.

Jb is right, you might be able to float out a light weight small Jon boat, but that would be about it and it still might be sketchy at brush creek, and yes it seems the creek channel at ringer has moved to the left heading out to the river, and there’s a tree top in between the markers now, so be careful, if you don’t know the river, you might want to wait for the water to come up a little before venturing out, trust me, I’ve been out on that river since I was three and Mr Pate had to come help me off a sand bar not to long ago, that’s when the water was in the 40’s, and we were in it
