Believe it to be a natural form, like in iron rock.

Is it magnetic?

Could be magnetite, a natural iron ore that early native Americans modified for their use. I have a few pieces that resemble yours but can't determine what they were used for. Magnetite sometimes has enough iron to be attracted to a magnet but the attraction is not strong like a piece of modern iron or steel.
