Looks good! I love wooden utensils. I have a couple that my grandpa whittled out of applewood that I still use on a regular basis.

I've been thinking of it a lot lately. Somebody keeps leaving my wooden utensils in the prewash and the dogs have turned them into their sticks

The old folks around home in Wheeler County carved those out of Tupelo wood. Mama used to have several. Good memories.
Yellow poplar was the preferred dough bowl wood around here. My sister has an old one. She treasures it.

:eek2: I have a big stash of wooden and bamboo utensils. I'd beat somebody with them if I found one of them in the dishwasher. :)

I'm not allowed to use wooden spoons as weapons anymore. When the wife and I first got married, i used to chase her around the house with the "naughty spoon". She didn't enjoy that as much as I did and hid all the spoons.

What kind of tools do you use?

The Swiss may be socialists but they make fine carving tools. I use Pfiel and Mora knives. Pfiel is excellent, but mora is good enough at half the price. I have a full shop of woodworking equipment but I only use hand tools to carve. I used a coping saw and hatchet to blank it out. Then a gouge and basic carving knife to whittle it down.

You done a fine job there ! Did you use a hook knife any ? Makes a spoon or kuksa a lot easier. I remember my paw paw carving axe handles, hoe handles and maddock handles. He used to finish them out by honing them with a piece of old glass or a bone. That whittlings addictive. Might try some wood spirits.
