Why is Bear Baiting Not Allowed?

Why is baiting for bear not allowed?

The northern part of the state has a very healthy population. Many other states allow baiting.

Could we not purchase bear baiting permits for a fee so the state could generate additional income?

I think they are afraid of the publicity and attention it would get from the anti-hunters(rightfully so). Bears seem to be a very touchy subject for them.

Because you might actually kill a bear.

It would give a person/novice a chance to look the bear over, especially making sure it wasn't a sow with cub(s).

Definitely could see it where they are over populated.

I’d rather shoot a bear that had been treed by dogs. But to each his own
I wouldn't. The adrenaline tends to make the meat a little tougher, that's why I grind most shot over hounds.

However you decide to hunt, the reality is the only thing that matters as far as management is concerned is numbers killed or not. The method only matters to the hunter. Use the method you feel best about. Let others do the same.

I think if someone was going to shoot me, I’d rather be calmly dispatched eating dinner than chased and run up a tree by a pack of dogs first. If I were going out to kill a bear, I’d rather have a pack of dogs between me and the bear than not have them. We definitely need to stick together as hunters and gun owners instead of infighting.

Might have something to do with the vast amount of public land in the northern zone. They could allow baiting on private land, but that’s a pretty small percentage of the land that isn’t residential, and I think we can all agree that running bear bait in the back yard is bad for people and bears. Also, if they did allow baiting on private us public guys would raise a big stink about baiters pulling all the bears off NF. And baiting on public is a great way to start fights and shootouts over whose spot is who’s, and who got there first.

And lastly, who needs bait when there’s white oaks? I personally don’t care for baiting. I don’t run it on my middle ga land. I don’t need to. I can pretty much see deer every sit without it.
