Do you think he just couldn’t smell it ?
When my dog hits the ground its a least 10 minutes before she gets her running around a peeing done before we can start really hunting. I shot a tree rat the other day and I let her out to get it and she ran right over it. Once she had calmed down it was back to business and she brought it to me.

He could smell it. My backyard is fields, forest and a big creek bottom. Sometimes he just goes bat butt crazy! He gets plenty of exercise he just can’t control his thought process and forgets his training
I feel that same way if I've been cooped up.

If he keeps playing around like that this will be his last season with me.

It seems my puppy does the same thing. I just have got to get a woodcock in her mouth this season.

That’s a good sign !!! Can’t wait to see my pups first woodcock point
I’m down between the ONF and BF Grant. If that’s not too far for you to travel, we can set a hunt up.

Went Saturday and Sunday. One place there were no birds on Saturday. Tried another place Sunday and we found a pocket of birds in thick spots that had moisture. Got couple of shots at birds that corkscrewed me into the ground but no cigar. Rain needed desperately. Will have to wait for cooler temps this week. Not chancing it with no shoulders. Gil
