Indian Trail Tree?

I was turkey hunting this morning in Wilkinson County in a branch bottom on our company's (BASF) mining land and found this unique tree formation. This is a large white oak about 30 yards from the running branch. The elbow is pointing 90 degrees directly away from the branch. Neat looking anyway.

There's no way to tell the real age of a white oak without taking a core sample...trunk diameter can be deceptive. There are many cases documented by the North GA MountainKeepers where they have core sampled small diameter trees and found them to be several hundred years old.
