Trapping Coyotes

I have 4 leg hold traps and have had a little luck catching a couple coyotes and a bobcat. More often than not, they get the bait and don't set off the traps. Anyone have any tips on how to set the traps/bait? Or what the best bait is?

seems like your bait is fine, sounds like your trap is set heavy

Or your trap placement and backing are off. When you dig a hole, you want it at about a 40 degree angle, about 8-12 inches deep and with some backing (log, clump of grass, etc). This makes the animal approach the hole on the side your trap is on. If I'm targeting coyotes, I place the trap back 9 inches from the hole and 2 inches to the right to get his right foot. Boiling, dyeing and waxing your traps is a must also. Hope this helps, good luck!
