Air Compressor

Looking for an air compressor for my shop at home. Tire rotating and air ratchet are the biggest items. Looking at two compressors, Dewalt 15 gallon upright and Campbell Hausfeld 20 gal, 200psi upright. Read good and bad on both and just wondered if anyone had used them . Dewalt more expensive and I don't know if it is better or tougher than the Campbell. Thanks for any insight you may have.

Go as big as you can afford. I run a 50 gallon in my shop at home and wish I had a larger compressor. I can't say much for quality on the new Campbells but the old one I have is still holding up pretty good. I know the prices on the husky compressors at homedepot are not too bad either, not too sure how those hold up though.

Try and get one that's run by a motor and belt system to pulleys. Those vibrating reed compressors are noisey and not near as durable.

Cfm's and tank size is most important, psi don't need to be over 125I believe you will not be satisfied with the performance of a 15-20 gallon tank if you are going to try to use air tools. With air tools you probably need at least 60-80 gallon with a good rate of cfm's depending on type of tools.

I bought a Campbell Hausfeld twin cyl.60 gal compresser bout 3 years ago from a radio show called Swap,Buy Sell here in Barnesville area, works great for any tools or anything else in my shop. You may not need one that big but i,d rather have overkill at the 200 i paid for it.Oillless type are junk in my opinion, unless theve changed after 2 that broke on me after 2 years use. Here then still on radio for sale every day as i still listen for bargins there, especially this time of year. Now if a great circular saw would just come on after my old Black and Decker switch broke after 30 years and they dont make anymore!.Thanks,Paul

If you have to go Campbell then there is a 60 Gallon at Tractor Supply for $469 that is good for someone on a budget. I would personally save a little more money and buy the Ingersoll Rand they sell for $599. The difference is about 10000 hours of designed runtime for the IR and it has a higher CFM for your tools. Both are 60 GAL.

The last link is to IR 5hp 60 gal for $849 but it runs 18.3 cfm @ 90 PSI .... that's as much or more air than just about anyone will need.

Thanks guys. This helps a lot. I may have to move it from time to time so a smaller one may have to do.
