Wednesday Night Eats..

The Oracle
My nephew works at the local meat market.
Saving up money for college. He gave me a
pack of store-bought ribs. Never have done that
so we will see.
Be putting that on around 4:30.

Dry, seasoned black-eyes.
Already in the first heat.

Stewed tomatoes. Tomatoes were canned,
added some white sugar and Louisiana brand hot sauce.
Already in the first heat.

My signature "blooming cabbage".
Half head, pizza sliced, olive oil, butter
black pepper, a few other things and
just enough apple juice to steam.
That ain't going yet. Will be about 15 mins
before the ribs get done.

Might throw in a few red potatoes and/or garlic bread.

Should be enough to feed a single fellow a few days.
Got to take some across town to my lil' Mama.

Sorry, not the best camera in the world.

What ya'll having?

I've had Curly's pulled BBQ, not bad for 3.99 a lb. Never seen their ribs down here however. I like that cabbage idea!

Thanks.. Dub!

Everything was good except the store-bought
ribs. They were eatable but not what one of
the GON boys could do on a smoker. You could tell they
were boiled and then packed in the sauce.

I did go ahead and do some red potatoes.
The potatoes, peas, cabbage and stewed tomatoes were
off the chain.

I took some notes from Elfi's avocado & mater salad the other day.

Made a dressing out of lime zest & juice, red wine vinegar, olive oil, garlic, fresh ground pepper, smoked salt and small amount of honey.

Made my wife a salad and drizzled some of that dressing over it.

She was mighty pleased.

Sliced some Brussels in half and soaked 'em in Don's Seasoning Delight, garlic & olive oil with some balsamic vinegar to boot.

Covered them and put 'em on the Weber.

Seasoned up a pork tenderloin while the tiny cabbages were cooking.

A little overcooked at 150 internal.....but nice and tender....flavor was there.

Steamed some butternut squash, too. Hit it lightly with rib rub.

The Brussels were killer !!!!

Thanks, man.

Zest & juice from two limes, red wine vinegar, olive oil, honey, garlic and S&P were simple and tasty. Glad I wasn't feeding a large crowd as the lime squeezing would've taken all afternoon, lol.

Pork tenderloins are about the easiest things to cook....I just got distracted with a phone call that took me away from the grill for a couple minutes too long....grrrrr.

Good thing is that it's a slightly forgiving cut....slightly.

So many flavor directions you can take it to with the rubs and/or sauces.....sorta like wings.

Kids are taking night classes tonight......making another Mrs. Hornett22's Buttermilk Pie for them in addition to the other stuff. Maybe I'll get to snag a slice, too. :D

At least he gets you started...lol

That pie looks good Dub, what kinda dough is that?

Pie dough that comes in a 2-pack from the grocery store's refrigerated section......usually right next to the eggs 'n such.

It's super easy to use.....spray a 9" pan/dish with PAM butter spray......then fit in one of those pie dough shells and fill with whatever you have in mind.....

Doesn't get much easier other than frozen pie shells.
