Dry Weather

Gone But Not Forgotten
We complain about the effects of dry weather when we go two weeks without rain.

consider, if you will, what it might be like to live in a land which records an average of one rain event every 100 years. People often live out a full life without ever witness water falling from the sky.

The October, 2004 issue of National Geographic reports this as the case over parts of the Sahara Desert, the world's largest.

Such conditions have existed in the Sahara for the past 4000 years. Prior to this time, the area now occupied by desert was entirely green. Water was so plentiful as to afford the presence of hippopotamuses which require the presence of year round water.

This contrast in climates was brought about by the tilting of the earth's axis, causing the African Monsoon to retreat southward to where it is today.
