Alaska fishing report

Back from six days at Intricate Bay Lodge on the shores of Lake Iliamna, Alaska.

Carolyn and I were scheduled for this trip last year but Covid had other plans. The trip was rescheduled for this year.

Getting there and back involved a drive from and to Atlanta, United to Chicago and then on to Anchorage. Uber to Iliamna Air, and finally a float plane ride across the lake to the lodge. About 24 hours of travel each way with wait times included.

Our lodging and food was good, the fish big and eager, the scenery spectacular and the bears......my, the bears.

Spectacular trip Fred. For anyone that has talked about going to AK but just never got it done, set a date and find a way to make it happen. It's an amazing experience.

Lol. They did keep our attention when we saw them. Two of the guys fishing at the same lodge stumbled across a bear chasing salmon on a run by a gravel bar. The bear did a mock charge complete with growls and jaw popping. One of the fisherman got great pics. He had more nerve than me.

What a awesome trip , and beautiful pictures ! Thanks for sharing . The guide with the light blue hoodie on , his name isn’t Rex is it ? The reason I ask is I went to college with a guy in 93 and he went on a trip to Alaska and never came back . I kept in touch for several years and he was a fishing guide and absolutely loved it . That guy looks just like him is the reason I ask

I’ve talked with several guides over the years that made “the trip” and never came back. I can understand how someone could make that decision.

This guide’s name was Brian.

awesome....my cousins daughter is married to a guy stationed at ft richardson(i think thats the name)....they have a place they fish and camp somewhere near there....he's been up twice and has been fishing both times with great success....
