Early Spring Garden

Was wondering when yall would usually plant your early spring crops outside (mainly beets, radish, onion, cabbage, carrots, lettuce). Would they be fine with a frost? Also, if you were starting cabbage transplants indoors when would you start those? I have only ever had warm season gardens (cucumber, squash, okra, tomatoes. Ect.) and dont know much about this.

What part of the state? Makes a difference a bit, but now is a good time to start spring cool season crops. Cabbage, kale, collards, beets, etc. All those you listed are tolerant of frost.

I waited out the monsoon rain until yesterday to throw the palletized lime out on my garden spots. I also use Garden lime at time of planting

I’m in Dooly Co., now is a great time to plant cool crops as long as your ground isn’t underwater from last weeks rain. I normally only plant a small spring garden, gotta change that.
Post up pics of your progress, folks here love pics and are full of good advice.
Also, Farmer’s Seed and Feed in Americus is a pretty good place to buy garden seed if Cordele doesn’t have what you want.

Give me a name for a good seed store in Cordele please . I may ride down and get some seed for next year.

We only have one seed store, it’s Arabi Feed on the south end of Cordele. 1501 South 6th Street. I’d give them a call before you went I’m not sure what all they have since being bought out. 229-273-6688.
I normally go over to Americus and get seed from Farmers Seed and Feed. It’s a well established old place. 206 North Hampton Street, Americus. 229-924-4298

I've done business with Farmers for a long time. It's even got the old school store feel.

Thanks will do, I think I’ve been there before. I like to visit feed and seed stores as much as old time hardware stores, if I can find them.
