Ground cover recommendations?

I just bought a new construction house that has good sod around it, but there's about a 20x80 foot strip on one side that's just bare red clay dirt. I'd like to get grass growing there in the spring but what can I plant now that'll grow in this heat? I don't care what it is just don't want a mud pit on that side when the winter rains get here.

Browntop millet will be your cheapest best bet. Sorgum x sudangrass is another. Both will die in winter though.

Bahia. You can kill it out and plant something else when it cools down.
