How does God strengthen us? Not by making us more competent for the Christian life, but by bringing us into deeper fellowship with Christ as our Life:
"The joy of the Lord is my strength..." - Nehemiah 8:10
What an idea! Listen, Hebrews 12 tells us that for the joy set before Him, Jesus endured the cross (v. 2). The joy that made the cross bearable for Him is YOU! For the joy of reconciling relationship with you Jesus endured the cross, for the joy of being with you, He scorned it's shame, and for His joy of sharing His Life with you He finished the work and sat down with the Father. His passion was never a cross, but a relationship that made the cross worthwhile to Him!
So, what about the joy that IS or CAUSES your strength? It isn't saying joy He gives you... It says HIS JOY is your strength! His joy and passion for you is the empowerment to walk with Him and trust Him and live for and from Him. His joy of you is relationship that sets afire within us the Life of participating in His divine nature.
My friend, let God's joy OF YOU strengthen you to walk boldly and joyously with Him. His passion for you IS your power for what lies ahead. He's with you. He's got you. He's enough. Enjoy His joy for Life with you today!
