the other day I asked if I could be an official georgian after living here 41 years. I was kinda told that as a yankee I'd never be accepted. so I'm gonna tell you a truth ya'all have denied for a long time. NEARLY ALL YOU REBELS HAVE SOME YANKEE BLOOD. you see we came down here and kicked some hind-ends and then we did what all conquering armies do and left behind a bunch of half-yankee kids. so since you now know that we're all blood brothers. lets kiss and make up.:flag:

Resica,
What you doing messing with these fellers??.......... we all know you are as southern as grits. ;) Me and you had some grandpas fighting under the same Regimental flag in my avatar if I remember correctly.

I do like it when discussing the waw-ah gets hot 145 years later.:clap:

We need to talk up the history of that terrible part of our nations history and teach those who refuse to embrace it the importance of never forgetting that fight no matter which side your fore fathers fought for.

This year marks the beginning of the sesquicentennial (150 year anniversary) of the war. Posted below is an image of our Sons of Confederate Veterans official emblem for this anniversary. The link will take you to an interesting bit of information that helps us understand some of the reasons we need to remember.

Resica have you joined the SCV up there yet, you know you qualify ::ke:

I moved here from Richmond, VA - after serving in the AF. I thought it was nice that some one found a place to put all those second place trophies on Monument Avenue. :flag:

The Real Lincoln

by Charley Reese

I can remember when Congress took the disgraceful step of lumping the birthdays of our Founding Fathers into a generic three-day weekend. Pressure to do so came from federal-employee unions, the travel industry and, of course, Congress itself. Nobody loves a three-day weekend more than Congress.

The point of the original holidays was to honor the men on their birthdays. Certainly today's Americans need to know more about presidents like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and their thoughts on public-policy matters. They are lost completely, however, when it is all turned into an excuse for a minivacation.

Abraham Lincoln's birthday was also merged into this generic holiday, and his life, too, is important for Americans to study. Washington and Jefferson created the republic; Lincoln destroyed it. Scholars are at last beginning to dig BLAH BLAH BLAH

This is a load of smelly stuff. I can post fifty articles praising Lincoln and calling him one of the greatest leaders to ever hold any office. The extreme bitterness following the conflict and the fact that it so personally touched so many Americans as it was carried out in their backyards has led to many distorted accounts of both the participants and the events of that era. You can pick Lincoln apart concerning his education and some of his actions during this strife, but some of the propoganda posted above is purely false and the biased rhetoric of somebody with an agenda. Writers and historians in the south slanted their output to favor the CSA and the cause as their counterparts north of the mason-dixon always have found fault in their southern brethren. It was witnessed widely that during this sad period, Lincoln openly wept at times as he dealt with the enormity of this tragedy that was literally ripping apart his beloved republic.

He was an American, as we all were. Who do you think stirred this whole thing up really? Lincoln? Hardworking southerners? It was the handful of greedy, filthy rich, slave holding, primping plantation owners who lorded over huge estates. The war was in response to the burden placed on them by the US government which essentially forced them to pay their fair share of the taxes on their production (just as the industries in the north had been) and partially because of the rapidly expanding, worlwide anti-slavery movement which also meant even more money out their big pockets. The fact they would actually have to pay an honest wage to maintain their 'fifedoms' rather than to opress and beat a fellow human being into a lifetime of dismal servitude, well that was enough to send them into a frenzy of talk of seperation and outright war against the nation that our ancestors had sacrificed their lifes for less than a century before. Sad thing is that just like every war before and since, these instigators usually end up far behind the actual blood and guts part of their endeavor. No sir, it is always us poor folks that end up right up front a hacking and shooting each other to pieces.

Be thankful that the south lost or we'd all be living in the CSSA right now... the Confederate Socialist States of America. It wouldn't have been a democracy by no means and that is clearly evident in the doctrine and actions of those "aristrocratic" plantation owners who instigated the whole affair and funded the initial uprise. Don't just read southern accounts or just northern depictions concerning this matter. Try reading just plain historical accounts, study surviving correspondance between those in power, and look at the news reports from European countries as they watched this great nation try to tear herself apart.

Warning this may cause you to form an opinion on your own which may conflict with your "The South is Going To Rise Again" beach towel you bought in Panama City a few years back?
