Medicare question

At 62 years old, and filing for SSD, I was finally awarded disability. I filed in July of 2020, and it took over 3 1/2 years. My question is, do I have to wait the 24 months to be eligible for medicare? Or does the 24 month waiting time begin when I first applied in 2020? TIA!
