If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, please join us at the Hatchery for our 8th Annual Fall Fling. Here's the details from a mailing that went out last week. We have a TON of prizes, auction items, etc... this year - I'll post that in another thread...

NGTO’s Annual Fall Fling is fast approaching. We are working to make this a great event. We have brought back some very popular events and added some great new ones. It will be a busy morning and some events overlap each other so you will have to pick the ones you want. With all we have going, there were only so many hours available in the morning. If you haven't been to an NGTO event before, this is the one to attend.
Chattahoochee DH Fishing Seminars - 8:30am-9:30am & 11:00am-12:00pm
seminar.jpg
Back by popular demand, Jeff Gillespie (jeffg) and Mark Ellis (Fish) will be presenting their program on “Fishing the Delayed Harvest Section of the Hooch”. They will go into what to use, how to fish it and if you are lucky and listening, maybe even some of the best spots to go. We had a great turn out last year for this presentation so make sure you come early to get all the information you need.
Casting Contest - Practice 8:30am, Event - 9:30am-12:00pm
RocketRoy will be conducting the Casting Contest again. This has become an annual tradition with its coveted “trophy” going to the winner. The contest consists of an accuracy course and casting for distance. Try this out, it is great fun. Even if you don’t think you are the best you do have a chance to win something.
Beginners Fly Tying Class (advance registration required) - 9:00am - 10:30am
Beth Tuttle (FlygURL) will be conducting her Beginners Fly Tying Class again. At the time of this email the class was full. If you are interested in this class but did not get in you might want to watch this thread for a cancellation.
Fly Tying Demonstration - 8:00am - 11:00am
Steve Hudson and Chuck Morris are going to have fly tying demonstrations going on all morning long. Here's the schedule:
8 a.m. -- Tying an epoxy spoonfly-style fly for fresh or saltwater
9 a.m. -- Tying popping bugs
10 a.m. -- Tying craft-shop woolly buggers (using all craft shop materials)
11 a.m. -- Tying "junk food" flies for DH trout
How many people: We have vises for six tyers, so we'll set up for six for each session. If we can find more vises, or if you have your own that you can bring, we can certainly have more participants if there's interest.

What to bring: All you need to bring is scissors (and a vise, if you have it and want to use your own), and (depending on where we end up setting up) a small lamp so you can see well. we'll provide everything else.

Should I sign up in advance? If you know you'd like to be a part of one of the sessions and would like to reserve a spot, we will be glad to start a list for each session. But if you decide at the last minute to come, and there's room, that's fine too! (here's the link to sign-up)

"Drag Free Drift" Seminar & Coaching- 9:30am - 10:30am
Jeff Durniak (Dredger) is going to be putting on a brand new class for us this year. If you are going to learn one technique that will improve your ability to catch fish it would be "How to Make a Drag Free Drift". Jeff is going to be conducting an on-stream class showing you how to accomplish this skill. Helping Jeff will be several "Famous" Mentors that will work with two students apiece. We are still excepting volunteers to help us teach this class. You do not have to be a pro to help out just a want to help your fellow fisherman. Just remember you are an expert compared to a less experienced angler. Sign up for the class will be on a first come first serve basis the day of the Fling. As we get closer to the day, I will be able to give you an approximation of how many spots we will have. Plan on meeting no later then 9:15 am near the raceways to be shuttled down to the river. Jeff is planning to give a brief 10 minute speech/demo on casting and drift, and then we'll put folks in the river with an instructor. Participants should bring their own waders, sunglasses, and rods and make sure you have some strike indicators (yarn or cork- Jeff despises those sticky dots that can't be adjusted).
Iron Skillet Contest
At the last Fall Fling we had a cooking contest for the members. It went over well so we will continue that again this year. So get your recipes out and put something together to share with all at the Fling. You can prepare anything from dips to desserts. Just remember, if you need to heat your item, you need to bring your own camp stove. The voting will be done by all in attendance. You just put your ticket into the bucket in front of the one you like best.
Lunch on NGTO - Gold Star BBQ and Iron Skillet Award Judging - 12:00pm
bbq.jpg
Lunch will once again be cooked up by Brent Langley (B983) of Gold Star BBQ. For those of you that have been before, you know how good this is. The rest of you just need to show up and find out for yourselves. If you feel like it, bring a side dish or dessert to share. We have had some great dishes that folks have brought and some that members look forward to each year. If you think your dish is worthy, once again you can enter it to see if you can win the Iron Skillet Award. Thank goodness Fishnpreacher has pulled himself out of the contest or at least he is not entering the Roosevelt Beans. Man they were good. So lets see who can make this a challenge. One last thing, guess all of should be glad that the contest is open only to side dishes or desserts since if it was open to the main course all of us would be out of luck when trying to compete against Brent's BBQ.
Silent Auctions - 9:00am - 1:00pm

Silent Auction items will be available until 1:00 for bidding, at 1:00 the auctions end and winners will be announced. Our Silent Auction is better then ever this year.

Fall Fling Fly Raffle Drawing- 2:00pm

Steamer (Josh) will be holding the fly raffle again at this fling, We had a really good one last fall, we had over 300 flies. so everyone bring your flies.

Here how it works. We will start with a empty box and For every two flies you add to the box, we'll give you 1 sheet of paper. You put your name and phone number on it and drop it in the bucket. If you add 10 flies you get 5 chances, etc... at the end of the fling we will draw a name and the winner will get the box of all the flies. We'll have a table set up for the raffle. You do not have to be present to win, we'll call and mail you the box.
Stories, Lies, and The One That Got Away - ALL DAY
There's one thing you'll find PLENTY of at this event... FISH STORIES :). Aside from putting names with faces of those you have met on our Web site and message board, rumor has it that many secret brookie locations and striper fishing techniques are discussed at these events... of course, our policy is... "what happens at the fling, stays at the fling" - so don't worry, we won't tell. You'll just have to come out and join us for the event and find out for yourself!
In all seriousness, our Fall Fling is our biggest annual Fundraiser. Without this event NGTO wouldn't be able to do things like help the DNR buy stocking tubes for the river, assist with river-clean-ups, sponsor kids at TU Trout Camp, run the Annual KFD at Azalea Park, sponsor Trout in the Classroom, etc... support us by coming out and enjoying the day!
