The new hybrid was just kyboshed - there will be a deal hosted by chestnut foundation on December 15 to discuss (I’m pretty sure).

Makes me sad
I missed the chestnuts in force. There are millions up here in the mountains around camp and occasionally I'll run into fruit bearing trees. We have a bunch on our small property. Glad the trees come up. Be nice when the blight is overcome.

I've seen some closer to home that were pretty big, bearing fruit and didn't seem affected. They were American chestnuts, not Chinese or Dunstan.

There are some scattered around, here and there. I know some of the genetic material they used in the early days of the hybridization process came from an unnamed stand that was found in the Pine Mountain area that did not exhibit any fungal infection. I saw one up in N. Ga. this past fall, but it had some infected spots and it had produced some unfertile husks, due to the fact that they are not self-fertile.
