Roman Gabriel dies at 83. The first Filipino American quarterback in the NFL was MVP in 1969

His son Roman Gabriel III announced his father’s death on social media, saying he died peacefully at home of natural causes.

Me and my childhood buddies played sandlot football together. We all had cheap NFL helmets. Neil had a Packers helmet (Bart Starr), Tom had a Jets helmet (Joe Namath). I had the Rams helmet and pretended I was Roman Gabriel. Back when the NFL was worthy of a kid idolizing its players.
