Saving to buy my first rifle in 1979. Marlin 3030 and still have it. Fried backstrap, taters and onions and still do that. Building ladder stands out of scrap lumber, don't do that any more. Treebark camo overalls and an old army jacket from Ole Sarge's.

Using a sleeping bag in a climber for late season hunts. I really appreciate the new gear and actually being able to afford to purchase proper gear.

Buck knife folding hunter that you couldn't get sharp.
Army boots that leaked and weren't warm.
Wearing 3 pairs of TUBE socks.
Army jacket with jeans.
Baker climber with no hand climber.
Seeing 10-15 does an afternoon in 3 Lakes WMA and never a buck.
Putting bread bags over your boots to walk through swamps. It sounded good but feet still always got wet.
Taping a wooden match stick to recurve bow riser for a site.
We had mosquito repellent in a plastic bottle that you squeezed out on your hand and applied.
Listening to the Gator football games in the dove field on a radio that was as big as a car battery in the early 70's.

Opening of deer season in the everglades looked like Ft. Lauderdale beach during spring break..
Camps setup everywhere..literally..
Getting lit up from static electricity from grabbing the dew covered truck door handle first thing in the a.m after camping under powerlines...
Honda atc's with high handlebars so we could drive standing up and see over the sawgrass..
Still hunted barefoot..nothing kept your feet dry and lugging around water logged boots just wore you out and was the opposite of quiet...
Airboats, half tracks and full tracks piled with deer..
Refrigerated tractor trailers filled with bucks..
Driving through the glades and see hundreds of deer without getting out of the truck...

Then along came South Florida water mismanagement flooding area and drowning everything out...
Operation deer save...look that up on YouTube
Mercy hunts...
It'll never be the same...but I still hunt it every year it's open...
