Never used deer shanks before other than ground them but some of you guys inspired me. This is the braise before they go in the crockpot. Hopefully it turns out well.
Some of the absolute best meat on the deer if you cook them right.

Well I braised/seared them in a frying pan and threw them in a crock pot with all the veggies. Sure is smelling good!

Sounds like you are well on your way!

Don’t get no better than that. I’ve been wanting to try birria tacos with some shanks. Maybe next week if all goes well this weekend

I’m guilty of cutting out the easy meat and grinding and throwing the rest for the dogs to chew on . That looks delicious and I will be trying them soon

I saved mine for the dogs. Thought I would cook them a little before letting them chow down. Turn stove top on low and put the in some water with no seasoning. Fell asleep. Work up the next morning and took them off the stove. Thought I would try them before I tossed them in the yard for the dogs.

They didn’t make it to the dogs.

I use Gordon Ramsays beef short rib recipe for deer shanks.

It’s simple yet delicious, I add carrots and onion before it goes in the oven. In the video he uses Celsius so covert to Fahrenheit (350).

Y’all done flung a craving on me in this thread. I browned a few shanks in the cast iron skillet this evening and got them in the crock pot. I add the liquid in the am and get them going before I go to work. I’ll add my veggies when I go home at lunch and it should be good to go for supper. I’ll post up the results.
