I have some very old documents, letters, papers that are very sentimental to me. Some of them date back to the 1870’s. Currently i have them in a small fire proof safe. I was thinking about moving them to my safe deposit box at the bank. Should i put them in a bag, or leave them be? Theh are in very good shape consodering their age. Most of the documents are tri folded like a brochure.

Scan them and save copies on a zip drive. Can then be looked at as often as desired. Contact a state or national library or museum to see what is the current method for preservation of documents.

Saw it on Pawn Shop Stars the other day. They said coolish temps, low or no humidity and in the dark.

Put them in a ziplock bag, and drop in a couple desiccant packs to eliminate any moisture. I keep birth certs, wills, etc. that way in my fire safe. Nothing really old, but important.
