Hello there everybody - does anybody know what they are doing to the woods on Buford Dam Rd. ?

They have taken down about 15-yards of the front side of the trees there and then there are 3 different areas of also cleared out areas that are about 20 yards into the woods and they are clearing it out for something.........does anybody know for what?

Hate to see trees go down like that - maybe a new campground? But it's not on the lake side and they can't even keep open the ones they do have????

Please advise if you know the skinny on it.

Please and thank you

Per the masterplan the COE is harvesting timber and clearing for a new road at the base of the dam from Sawnee CG to the main dam (switchyard area). Also, includes removal of trees that have grown along the base of the saddle dikes #1 and 2 in order to enhance dam integrity. The current roadway across that portion of the dam is accident prone will be closed to the public when the new one is complete. The new road will be pretty straight vs. the curves of the present road. Long range plans include a new bridge across the river to complete getting all the traffic off the main dam. I doubt that part will be done anytime soon unless funding becomes available possibly from the Dept. of Transportation. What most people don't know is that the present roadway was never intended nor designed to carry the amount of non-recreation traffic that it does today. The COE owns the property and road from Sawnee east past Buford Dam Park.
