In Eastern NC, 52 degrees here on the shores of the western Atlantic Ocean. Camp Lejeune Marine base just 12 miles below us, 48 degrees and Jacksonville NC as well. Just an hour or so away from us in southeastern NC some places were 46 degrees this morning, cooler than Raleigh the state capitol, which is over 130 miles inland from here.

Never seen a time when May and now June was this cool as I remember and I'm an old man. I'm not complaining at all love the cool weather and its not doing my tomatoes any good, but I don't want to talk about global warming anytime soon.

And yes I know we had another thread on this subject recently, the weatherman is saying another cool night for us tonight, well below average for our area.

And I really am not sure if El Nino will be worse for Hurricanes this year or maybe keep them away from us. But you can bet we will keep a weather eye cocked towards Africa and the Caribbean and gulf areas.

You know in the last few years hurricanes have become more real to me. By that I mean a couple of times in the last few years the storm has come inland to us. I’m especially noticing wind now that I’m raising pecans. A heavy loaded tree and strong winds are not a good thing. Fall hurricanes used to mean relief rains, now I understand the destruction and suffering they sometimes bring with them.

My fall corn patches have given me the same recent insight and respect for the storms.

There was a big pecan grove near us when we lived in SC. In 1989 we got a direct hit from Hurricane Hugo, what was left of that pecan grove wasn't pretty.

Hey NChillbilly what was the temperature in your area this morning?

Yesterday in Hubert, NC when I walked out to check on the pool I had steam coming off the water and had a slight urge to grab my climber and head to the woods. Then I quickly realized it was the first week of June

I'm liking this cool weather

Finally run up a thousand miles on my new crate engine. Got rid of the break in oil a filled it up with Mobile 1. (best commercial oil you can get)

Now that I'm pretty sure the engine reliable, I'm going to do some fishing and sight seeing around the state and maybe Florida before it gets hot. Got a dentist appt Thursday and then prolly take off for a while.

My air conditioner has only kicked in a few times in the last several.

I put a new crate engine in my old '86 Chevy truck in 1999, a new 350. It has never missed a beat since that day, still runs fine and uses no oil. I got a good one, also put a new Edelbrock carb and new distributor, fuel pump and water pump everything new on the new engine. I rebuilt the Edelbrock a few weeks ago and got good increased horsepower from the rebuild. Hope you have the same luck with your new crate engine.

BTW, I have no idea how many miles I have put on my crate engine, the speedometer broke shortly after I installed the new motor. I use a GPS for monitoring my speed, don't need the speedometer anyway.

It was 58 degrees here yesterday morning, still unseasonably cool all last week but today (Sunday) its 68 degrees this morning. I ain't complaining the cool weather feels good in the AM but my little garden is ruined the plants just won't grow on these cool nights.
