What knot?

Read where a fisherman was going to tie a dropper on the hook of a dry/dropper combo but not on through the eye of the dry. First thought was it had to be a barbed to keep it from sliding off then next what know would you use?

Ideas? Have you done it?

Tie the tippet to the bend of the first fly with a clinch knot or improved clinch knot then tie the dropper to the end of the tippet with a Double Davy knot. It's fast and easy to tie and is plenty strong enough to handle trout.

I've tried it, and I don't really care for tying to the bend of the top fly myself. If I'm going to run a dry/dropper rig, I go through the hook eye. Rides better, and no obstruction to the fish getting the dry in its mouth far enough to set the hook.

I’ve done it both ways. Clinch to the eye of the dry fly, hopper, or on the bend of the hook with a clinch. It seems to tangle up less on the bend. I also use loop knots on both hook eyes
