Think we have been down this road before and I hear ya and I respect what you say.

I personally don’t agree to the extent that I am willing to forgo the hunting. If you look at the convoy of trucks from the southeast US headed into the state each November, I am not alone in that sentiment.

I find it very interesting though, many folks rail about states with restrictive gun laws but are perfectly willing to vacation there, purchase products (like fruit and vegetables) that support their economies, etc. Again, that is personal choice... I just find it ironic.

If my penalty to hunt there (in Illinois) is that I cannot CC, I am perfectly fine with that for two weeks or so. I don’t carry when hunting in SC either so I am not losing anything that I deem a requirement.

I know a lot of folks do carry and God bless this that do. If you like it, I love it...

I certainly am not gonna overlook the genuine jaw dropping hunting in Illinois as a result of not being able to carry. I have had a lot of interaction with folks that hunt there and never once has the carry issue ever been brought up. Maybe they, like me, are just fine with it.

Yep, to each their own. I just prefer to hunt in and spend my money in non-socialist places where I don't have to give up my freedom and American citizenship when I cross an imaginary line on the ground. It's not the hunting part with carrying. It's all the rest of the time when you're out in the public places. And it's the principle more than the thing itself.

And I would be 1000x more interested in shooting an elk, caribou, moose, mule deer, or antelope than a Midwestern whitetail if I was going to travel a long ways and spend a bunch of money.

I just don't see the appeal of the Midwest. Especially Illinois. I won't set foot in that communist state if I can help it. Short deer seasons, low bag limits, heavy restrictions on weapons and stuff, long, nasty winters, and nothing to hunt but whitetails. I would rather hunt whitetails in the south where you can kill more than one a year, and have a longer season.

Almost all of IL is filled incredibly great people that absolutely hates chicago and their government and everything it represents. They represent the best country, down to earth farming community folks you can imagine. Many petitions run the state yearly (especially middle to southern) to try and break away from chicago and create their own state. Course it will never happen, but I cant hold a whole state to blame for it's corruptness up above...kinda like holding the US responsible for california's idiocy.

As far as hunting goes...they have a deer season that runs from Oct 1 to mid January. Almost all of it is bow (which is a good thing in my mind) . You can kill 2 bucks and unlimited does. The squirrel and rabbit hunting is incredible. The predator hunting is incredible. The coon hunting is incredible. The turkey hunting is incredible. The quail are making a huge comeback. You can even sneak up on grouse too.

The river and pond and creek fishing is incredible.

The weather for southern IL is not brutal for the most part. Usually a couple good snows a year and winter temps probably average low 30s and high 40s low 50s.

It is an incredible state with seriously screwed up politics and idiotic gun laws.

All that being said when I moved to southern IL and lived in what I consider heaven on earth...a town of 448 people with no businesses and no redlights and 32 miles round trip to a gas station I had access to the finest deer land in the country. 2000 acres of corn, beans, woodlots and river bottoms. When I lost the lease, I had no reason to live in the commy state and moved 15 minutes away across the river to a little town in Indiana and can now carry legally again

When the Winter Classic Coon Hunt used to be held down here every January, there would be a pile of coonhunters from up yonder ways come down to enter. Those boys had some good dogs too.

Got farms in GA and SC but as far as the Mid West, it would be just across the Mississippi from Buffalo county Wisconsin. Just above Iowa in the SE Minnesota bluff country. If I had more time I would already own a farm there. One day....maybe

Another example of how goofy their gun laws are...I hunted there legally as a non res with a smokepole in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In 2009 I moved there and hunted the exact same land and with the exact same smokepole as a resident and at the end of the 1st or 2nd season I figured out I was illegal because as a resident I had to have a FOID card along with my licenses.

I guess the reason for my stretched out post defending IL was defending how incredible everything is except for the commie laws. Not living somewhere because of the crazy laws makes perfect sense to me and I can fully understand it. However no way can someone down IL for it's outdoor opportunities (much more than deer), because it has it all and then some.

Yeah, it's a shame that a whole state of good folks has to bow to one city and its politics, but that's the way it's heading all over the country. We're seeing it in VA right now, but I think the folks there are gonna bow up more than they have in other states where it has happened. It won't be long before NC and GA are in the same boat.

My son lived in IL for over two years. He gave up on even trying to get a gun legally.

I was the same way until I made the mistake of hunting outside of SE back in 05. I screamed GAs praises from the rooftops and still would be if I wouldnt have made that mistake
