Just out of curiosity, why do you think that isn't a preform set up to run a big thinning flake down that ridge 1/3 of the way up from the base?

Could have been, but the sides in the hafting area were ground, and a lot of work would be needed to set up a platform for a thinning or fluting strike.

It reminds me of a preform that was broken while being worked and then turned into another tool.
