sorry, i should have said it differently. what is the lightest draw weight you could use to effectively shoot a fish? i have a bow that has 40 pounds of draw weight and i am pretty shure that is heavy enough

40 pounds is a plenty for shooting fish around here. If you are shooting alot off of bridges or in very deep clear water you might want to go a little heavier

I shoot 38-40# on compounds and mid-50's with the recurve and shoot some big stuff. Some guys even shoot down to 25-30# bows on fish and in shallow water that is normally enough. Too much weight is normally a bigger problem since you sink the arrow in the bottom too much and make it very difficult to pull out. 50# is about the most I will shoot and that is on deep water, big fish.
