My son would like to be a diesel mechanic on big trucks. What is the best way to learn. Should he enroll in a school or try to get a job at a truck shop and learn hands on ? Thanks for any advice. He has been working with hydraulics for several years and wants to learn diesels.

Try one of the big truck dealerships,if he has a hydraulics background it might help him get in.then"if"he does, they might work with him on schools and tuition, also i think north metro tech in acworth offers big diesel school and there use to be a detroit/williams there also.hope this helps.

there is an 12 month school in nashville tn that is very good and also helps students find jobs afterwards

Nashville Auto Diesel. Very good/ respected school. Not cheap. Talking 30K and up. But he would know his stuff. The diesel/auto mech thing is hard to get into in this area right now. You can find a job, but genrally the pay is not enough to support yourself and pay back your student loan. If he is willing to relocate, that's a diffrent story.
